The presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Peter Obi, has alleged that the Federal Government is making efforts to prevent him from contesting the 2027 presidential election.
Obi made the allegation on Saturday while speaking during a visit to Madonna University in Anambra.
His comments came hours after a Federal High Court in Lokoja, Kogi, set aside its earlier judgment directing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to register the NDC as a political party and ordered a fresh hearing in the matter.
Speaking at the event, Obi said he remained undeterred despite what he described as attempts to stop his political ambition.
“Today, the Federal Government is doing everything possible to stop me from becoming a candidate in this 2027 election. I can tell you for a fact, they won’t win,” he said.
The Federal High Court had earlier ruled that the suit concerning the registration of the NDC should commence afresh after setting aside its Dec. 10, 2025 judgment, which directed INEC to register the party.
The court held that all necessary parties, including the Peace Movement Party (PMP), must be joined in the suit before a determination could be made on the substantive issues.
The ruling restored the status quo pending the hearing and determination of the substantive case.
There was no immediate reaction from the Federal Government or INEC to Obi’s allegation as of the time of filing this report.
