Omoyele Sowore, the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), says his administration would deploy Artificial Intelligence (AI) to combat corruption, eliminate waste and improve transparency in public finance if elected president.
Speaking in an interview with Lucky Udu, Sowore alleged that the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation, the Federal Ministry of Finance and the Office of the Auditor General of the Federation are among the institutions that facilitate corruption in Nigeria.
He claimed that irregular practices, including alleged multiple payments to contractors, persist within some government institutions and argued that AI-powered systems could automatically detect and prevent such transactions.
“If someone is trying to pay one contractor three times, the AI will detect it,” he said.
Sowore added that technology-driven governance would significantly reduce the roles currently played by some public finance institutions, which he alleged were “largely responsible for corruption.”
According to him, his vision for governance is anchored on emerging technologies associated with the Fourth Industrial Revolution, including artificial intelligence, advanced computing, blockchain technology and decentralised banking.
“The presidency of Sowore is going to be about technology. It is going to be built on the Fourth Industrial Revolution, which is a revolution around artificial intelligence, the power of computing, blockchain technology and decentralized banking,” he said.
He also predicted that digital currencies would become increasingly dominant globally, adding that central banking systems could eventually become outdated as financial technologies continue to evolve.
Sowore did not provide specific evidence during the interview to support his allegations against the named government institutions. The institutions have also not publicly responded to his claims.
