Richarlison Scores Late Winner as 10-Man Tottenham Beat Chelsea 2-1

    Tottenham

Brazil forward Richarlison scored a dramatic 90th-minute winner as 10-man Tottenham Hotspur defeated London rivals Chelsea 2-1 in a feisty pre-season friendly at Stadium Australia on Saturday.

Club-record signing Sandro Tonali opened his Tottenham account with the first goal of the match before Chelsea youngster Estevao restored parity just two minutes later.

Tottenham took the lead in the 19th minute when Tonali fired home from the edge of the box, with his effort taking a deflection after good work by Manor Solomon on the right flank.

Chelsea responded almost immediately as Estevao headed home at the far post after Romeo Lavia surged through midfield to create the opportunity, sending both sides into the break level at 1-1.

Spurs were reduced to 10 men early in the second half after defender Kevin Danso was shown a straight red card for bringing down Joao Pedro shortly after coming on as a substitute.

Despite enjoying a numerical advantage and creating several chances, including an effort from Estevao that struck the crossbar, Chelsea failed to make their dominance count.

Richarlison then sealed victory for Tottenham in stoppage time, calmly side-footing home to hand his side a morale-boosting win before the new Premier League season.

The result handed new Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso his first defeat since taking charge, following last week’s 6-4 victory over Western Sydney Wanderers.

Chelsea are scheduled to face Juventus in Hong Kong on Wednesday as preparations for the new campaign continue.

For Tottenham, the victory capped a successful pre-season tour, following a 2-0 win over Auckland FC and a 1-1 draw against Sydney FC.

Both clubs have strengthened their squads during the transfer window, with Tottenham signing Tonali and Andy Robertson, while Chelsea have added several new players, including Morgan Rogers and Marco Palestra.
