Fake News: No Aso Rock Plot to Poison President Tinubu – Presidency

The Presidency has debunked viral social media claims that a kitchen staff member at Aso Rock Presidential Villa was arrested for allegedly plotting to poison President Bola Tinubu.

Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, dismissed the reports on Sunday, March 1, via his X account, sharing a circulating video with a voiceover alleging a special police squad’s intervention after intelligence on suspicious food preparation in restricted areas.

The video claimed the unnamed suspect—a presidential services kitchen staff—was detained for questioning amid an ongoing probe, urging public calm while emphasizing discreet operations to avert panic.

Onanuga stated unequivocally: “No Aso Rock kitchen staff arrested. No Aso Rock kitchen staff attempted to poison President Tinubu. Please ignore this fake news being disseminated by this video.”

Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Tope Ajayi, echoed the denial in response to media inquiries, confirming no such incident occurred.

No official details emerged on the video’s origin or motives, amid rising concerns over misinformation targeting presidential security.
