Ashley Young Retires After 23-Year Career

Former Manchester United and England defender Ashley Young, aged 40, announced his retirement from professional football at the end of Ipswich Town’s Championship season.

In a club statement, he expressed pride in his achievements and full focus on aiding promotion to the Premier League in Saturday’s finale, with decisions on his future to follow.

Ipswich manager Kieran McKenna hailed Young’s professionalism and impact, from their Manchester United days to this season’s influence.

Young’s trophy-laden career spanned Watford, Aston Villa, Everton, Inter Milan (Serie A 2020-21), and Manchester United (Premier League 2012-13, FA Cup 2015-16, Europa League 2016-17, League Cup 2016-17, multiple Community Shields), plus 39 England caps at Euro 2012 and 2018 World Cup.

Since joining Ipswich in July 2025, Young made 15 appearances before confirming his exit on April 30, 2026.
