Anambra State Government’s security operatives from the Agunechemba outfit arrested a prominent Nnewi-based native doctor, De Young Chief Priest, popularly known as “Aka Mmuo Mmiri Afulu Anya”, on Thursday for alleged illegal practices.
The arrest forms part of an ongoing statewide crackdown on traditionalists and native doctors suspected of preparing charms for criminals, including kidnappers and ritualists.
Arrest Details and Interrogation
According to reports from Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS) and social media updates, the operation targeted the suspect in Nnewi, a commercial hub in the state.
He remains in custody undergoing interrogation by authorities, though the government has not yet disclosed full details of the allegations.
Broader Crackdown Context
Anambra’s aggressive campaign against illicit spiritual activities intensified under Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration, with Agunechemba—launched as a homeland security initiative—leading raids on shrines linked to crime.
Recent actions include jailing a native doctor for money rituals and nabbing others tied to murders and kidnappings, aiming to curb ritual killings, fraud, and youth involvement in crime.
Authorities emphasise that the drive targets criminal enablers, not legitimate traditional worship.
This latest arrest underscores Anambra’s commitment to security, with residents praising the outfit’s role in reducing criminality.
