Police Arrest 19-Year-Old Man Over Alleged Impersonation, Attempted Robbery In Katsina

The Katsina State Police Command has arrested a 19-year-old man for allegedly impersonating a security operative and attempting to rob a yet-to-be-identified person with a toy pistol.

The Command’s spokesman, DSP Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday in Katsina.

According to Sadiq-Aliyu, the suspect was arrested after the police received a report at about 7 p.m. on August 22.

He said the suspect was allegedly seen chasing a person while pointing what appeared to be a pistol at the victim in an attempt to rob him.

“Consequently, in collaboration with members of the local vigilante group, police operatives swiftly responded and arrested the suspect at about 8:00 p.m. at Kofar Sauri, Katsina,” he said.

The police spokesman added that a search conducted on the suspect led to the recovery of a black toy pistol.

Sadiq-Aliyu said the suspect was currently in police custody as investigation into the alleged offence continued.

He said the Commissioner of Police in Katsina State, Ali Umar-Fage, commended members of the community and the local vigilante group for their vigilance and cooperation.

Umar-Fage urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.

The commissioner also stressed the importance of sustained collaboration between security agencies and members of the public in the fight against crime and criminality in the state.
