The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has unveiled 12 governorship candidates and their running mates for the 2027 Kwara State governorship election.
The candidates, drawn from various political parties, were unveiled at the commission’s office in Ilorin, the state capital, on Saturday.
The ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, is fielding the Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Yakubu Danladi-Salihu, as its governorship candidate, with Bello Mubarak Salau as his running mate.
Danladi emerged as the APC candidate after winning the party’s governorship primary held in May. The primary was chaired by former Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro.
The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, is contesting with Bolakale Kawu as its governorship candidate and Fawenu Corlenius as his running mate.
The Social Democratic Party, SDP, has Apaokagi Salahudeen as its candidate, with Kolawole Thawphic as his running mate.
Apaokagi previously contested the Kwara Central Senatorial District election in the 2023 general elections.
Other parties participating in the governorship contest are the Action Democratic Party, ADP; Accord Party; Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC; Action Peoples Party, APP; Action Alliance, AA; Action Peoples Movement, APM; National Democratic Party, NDP; All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA; and New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP.
The unveiling of the candidates marks another major step towards the 2027 governorship election as political parties intensify their preparations for the poll.

The first name in each entry is the governorship candidate, while the second is the running mate.
