The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has recovered more than N5.79 billion in looted funds between January and June 2026.
The figure was contained in the commission’s recent performance report, which highlighted its ongoing efforts to combat corruption, strengthen accountability and protect public resources.
According to the ICPC, a total of N5,789,681,925.02 in cash was recovered during the six-month review period.
The anti-corruption agency said corruption continues to pose a threat to Nigeria’s security architecture by diverting resources earmarked for critical public services and security infrastructure.
The commission said its anti-corruption efforts are focused on strengthening institutional integrity, promoting transparency and safeguarding public funds.
“In the face of Nigeria’s complex security challenges, corrupt practices remain critical enablers of instability, diverting essential resources from security infrastructure and eroding public trust,” the ICPC stated.
The commission also disclosed that it received 271 petitions during the period under review, of which 234 cases were assigned for investigation.
It further reported that 25 cases were filed before various courts, resulting in 20 convictions.
“The ICPC received 271 petitions. Of the 234 cases assigned for investigation, 25 cases were successfully filed in court, resulting in 20 convictions,” the commission said.
The ICPC maintained that recovering diverted public funds and strengthening accountability contribute directly to national stability by ensuring that resources are available for their intended purposes.
The agency reaffirmed its commitment to combating corruption, protecting public resources and promoting transparency across government institutions.
However, the commission did not disclose the individuals or institutions from whom the N5.79 billion was recovered.
