Hundreds of teenagers and young adults in Ogun State have pledged to reject cultism, drug abuse, cybercrime and other social vices following a youth sensitisation programme organised by the Ogun State Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV).
The programme was held during the Royal Ambassador Ogun Baptist Conference, Ephphatha 2026, according to a statement issued on Monday by the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer of the Ogun State Command, ASP Oluborode Opeyemi.
The sensitisation programme was conducted in line with the vision of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, and under the leadership of the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni.
The Ogun State POCACOV team, led by Opeyemi, engaged the participants on the dangers associated with cultism, gang violence, substance abuse, cybercrime and other criminal activities.
According to the police, the programme provided young people with practical knowledge and strategies to resist negative peer pressure and make responsible choices.
The team also highlighted the long-term consequences of involvement in criminal activities, including the destruction of promising futures, threats to personal safety and disruption of peace in schools and communities.
The sensitisation emphasised self-discipline, positive peer influence and personal accountability as key tools for preventing youth involvement in crime.
POCACOV officers also urged the participants to recognise their role in promoting safe communities and becoming positive influences among their peers.
The engagement ended with a collective pledge by the youths to maintain high moral standards, resist illicit activities and serve as anti-vice ambassadors in their schools and communities.
The Ogun State POCACOV said it would continue to strengthen community policing initiatives and youth-focused preventive programmes across the state.
