Rename second Niger bridge after Igbos and not Buhari – IPOB demands

    IPOB

Indigenous People of Biafra IPOB have said the Second Niger Bridge should be named after a notable Igbo indigene as naming the bridge after President Buhari is unacceptable to them.

Recall that during the commissioning of the bridge on Tuesday, May 23, the Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, said after consultation, the SouthEast governors agreed to name the bridge after President Buhari.

“After consultation with the South-East governors and other stakeholders, they decided to name the bridge Muhammadu Buhari Second Niger Bridge”he said

However, in a statement released by its spokesperson, Emma Powerful, IPOB argued that the action of the South-East governors amounted to “a betrayal” of the people of the region. They insist that the bridge should be named after an Igbo indigene and not the President.

“The bridge should be named after Dr Alex Ekweueme, Chief Odumegwu Ojukwu, Dr Sam Mbakwe, Prof. Chinua Achebe, Col. Achuzie, or many others that are well-deserving Igbo indigenes that anyone can suggest.

Naming the Second Niger Bridge after Buhari must not be allowed. The bridge must be renamed to a meritorious Igbo name.”the statement in part read.
