The remains of Lt. Felix Ademe Isaac, a Nigerian Army officer who was killed during a rescue operation for abducted teachers and pupils in Oyo State, have been laid to rest with full military honours in Yola, Adamawa State.
The late officer, aged 28, died while leading troops during an operation to rescue victims abducted in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
The kidnapped teachers and pupils were subsequently rescued and regained their freedom on July 10.
Lt. Isaac was buried on Friday at the 23rd Armoured Brigade Cemetery in Yola, where military personnel, family members, friends and sympathisers paid their last respects.
Born on Aug. 25, 1997, the officer received full military honours in recognition of his service and sacrifice.
Reports on the circumstances surrounding his death have varied.
While some accounts indicated that his convoy struck an improvised explosive device during the operation in a national park area of Oyo State, others suggested that the vehicle encountered a landmine allegedly planted by suspected terrorists.
The Nigerian Army has not officially confirmed the exact circumstances leading to his death.
Lt. Isaac was among security personnel involved in the operation that successfully secured the release of the abducted victims, although the mission claimed the lives of some personnel.
The burial ceremony featured military rites, including a ceremonial procession and the presentation of the national flag to the deceased officer’s family.
The late officer has been remembered by colleagues and associates as a dedicated and courageous soldier who paid the supreme price in the line of duty.
