Airport staff returns lost purse with $1,700, passports at MMIA Lagos

A member of staff at Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Frank Omorojie, has been commended for returning a lost purse containing cash and vital travel documents to its owner at the departure hall of Terminal 2.

The incident occurred on Wednesday, April 29, at the Rwanda Air check‑in area, where Omorojie discovered the misplaced purse.

The bag contained 1,700 United States dollars, a Nigerian and British passport, as well as a credit card.

Omorojie promptly reported the find to Aviation Security (AVSEC) personnel, after which the item was documented and handed over to the airport’s Customer Service unit, which made a public announcement to locate the owner.

A Nigerian passenger bound for Kigali, Rwanda, who had already feared the documents and money were lost permanently, was later reunited with all her belongings intact.

Airport officials praised Omorojie’s action as a clear display of professionalism and integrity, saying such conduct strengthens public confidence in airport operations and staff behaviour.

Speaking briefly, Omorojie said his decision was guided by basic honesty.
“I just did what was right,” he said.
