Osun State Governor, Sen. Ademola Adeleke, has inaugurated the 10.4-kilometre Edunabon-Tonkere Road in Ife North Local Government Area, describing the project as part of his administration’s commitment to improving infrastructure and boosting economic activities.
In a statement issued on Saturday by the governor’s spokesperson, Mr Olawale Rasheed, the project was said to have ended more than four decades of neglect and restored a critical road network linking communities in the area.
According to the statement, the governor also held a town hall meeting with traditional rulers from across Ife North Local Government Area after the inauguration.
Speaking on behalf of the monarchs, the Alakinlalu of Akinlalu commended Adeleke for fulfilling his promise to rehabilitate the road.
“When you came and made this promise to us, no one believed you would accomplish what you have done for us today,” the traditional ruler said.
Addressing supporters during a campaign rally in Ipetumodu, Adeleke urged residents to remain peaceful and reject intimidation ahead of the Aug. 15 governorship election.
He said the outcome of the election should be determined solely by the votes cast by the people.
“Nigeria must be ready to defend democracy. If we truly want to practise democracy, then we must practise it the right way,” the governor said.
Adeleke also called on security agencies to ensure a peaceful and credible electoral process, while urging residents not to be intimidated.
The Deputy Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Mr Akinyode Oyewusi, said the Adeleke administration had completed 18.2 kilometres of roads across Ife North Local Government Area within two years.
According to him, the completed Edunabon-Tonkere Road, the Akinlalu Junction-Akinlalu Town Road and the Yakooyo-Magistrate Court Road have improved connectivity, reduced travel time and stimulated economic activities in the area.
Oyewusi added that work was ongoing on the 3.3-kilometre Market Square-Tollgate Road in Ipetumodu, assuring residents of the government’s commitment to delivering more infrastructure projects.
The Secretary to the Osun State Government, Alhaji Teslim Igbalaye, also joined the governor during the visit to Ipetumodu.
