An American missionary has accused the Benue State Government of sabotaging his bid to rebuild Yelwata village, gutted by recent bandit attacks, through inflated contract demands.

He claims officials rejected his modest market reconstruction proposal, instead pushing a ₦300 million blueprint – which he insists any competent builder could deliver for ₦60 million maximum.
“No Nigerian village market costs ₦300 million,” the missionary declared, alleging government insiders are profiting off the plight of bandit-hit communities.
Yelwata residents, still reeling from the assaults, now face prolonged hardship amid the dispute, with the missionary vowing to expose the alleged extortion.
