MTN Foundation is set to graduate 4,702 public school teachers under the latest phase of its MTN and Senator Abiru Innovation Lab Teachers’ Fellowship Programme.
The graduation ceremony is scheduled to hold on Sept. 10 at the MTN Rooftop, Ikoyi, Lagos, following a 16-week capacity-building programme aimed at strengthening teachers’ digital skills and modern teaching capabilities.
The programme, implemented in partnership with SAIL Innovation Hub and Co-Creation Hub (CcHUB), was launched two years ago to improve teaching quality through digital literacy, innovative pedagogy and technology-enabled learning.
The foundation said the fellowship had so far trained 8,702 public school teachers across Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
It said the growing reach of the programme reflected a shared commitment to empowering teachers as catalysts for improved learning outcomes and sustainable national development.
According to the foundation, the 4,702 teachers in the latest cohort underwent intensive training, mentorship and practical sessions designed to improve their effectiveness in an increasingly digital environment.
The participants were trained to integrate technology, inquiry-based learning and innovative teaching methods into classroom activities.
The foundation said the training was particularly relevant as Artificial Intelligence (AI) and other emerging technologies continued to reshape the education sector globally.
It said the technologies were changing how knowledge was accessed, lessons delivered and students engaged with learning.
By equipping teachers with future-ready competencies, the programme was helping to prepare Nigerian classrooms for the demands of a rapidly changing educational environment, it said.
The graduation ceremony will mark the completion of the latest cohort and underscore the importance of continuous professional development for teachers.
The 4,702 educators are expected to take the knowledge and skills acquired through the fellowship back to their schools and apply them in improving students’ learning experiences.
