Nigerians are increasingly turning to functional exercise, healthy eating and recovery routines, with Google search trends indicating a growing interest in practical approaches to fitness and wellness.
An analysis of Google Trends search patterns over the past 12 months showed strong interest in bodyweight exercises, running, stretching, meal preparation, nutrition and other health-related topics.
The trends suggest that many Nigerians are exploring affordable and flexible ways of maintaining their health outside conventional gym routines.
One of the prominent exercise-related searches was “dead bug exercise”, a movement commonly used in physical therapy and athletic training to strengthen the core.
The exercise, performed while lying on the back with alternating arm and leg extensions, focuses on maintaining stability in the pelvis and lower back.
The search interest comes alongside queries on military calisthenics, military exercise and workout routines for beginners, reflecting interest in bodyweight conditioning.

Searches for yoga for beginners, best yoga stretches and best stretching routines suggest that Nigerians are paying attention to flexibility and recovery alongside physical exertion.
The query “how to clean a yoga mat” also featured among the trending searches, reflecting the increasing use of home-based exercise equipment.
Nutrition emerged as another major area of interest.
Searches for “best recipes for meal prep” and “vegetarian meal prep ideas” showed interest in preparing meals ahead of time, while “how to read nutrition labels” indicated efforts to better understand food composition, serving sizes and nutritional content.
The search query “what are the examples of balanced diet” further reflected interest in making healthier food choices.

Financial considerations appeared to influence how some Nigerians approach formal fitness facilities.
Searches for “gym membership deals” and “how to cancel gym membership” appeared among the top fitness-related queries, suggesting that consumers were assessing the cost and value of gym subscriptions.
The trends indicate that while some people continue to seek gym facilities and membership offers, others are exploring home workouts, outdoor running and bodyweight exercises that provide greater flexibility.
