National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) and the Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to accelerate Nigeria’s digital transformation and empower Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).
The agreement was signed on the sidelines of GITEX Nigeria by the Director-General of NITDA, Mr Kashifu Inuwa, and the Director-General of NACCIMA, Engr. Olusola Obadimu.
The partnership is aimed at fostering innovation, promoting technology adoption and supporting businesses across the country to leverage digital solutions for growth and competitiveness.
Speaking shortly after the signing ceremony, Obadimu described the agreement as a timely intervention for the private sector, noting that digital transformation had become essential for businesses seeking to remain relevant in the global economy.
“It is an excellent arrangement to have this type of protocol on digitisation and digital transformation, especially for the private sector,” he said.
Obadimu said NACCIMA, as the umbrella body of the organised private sector in Nigeria, considered digital transformation a necessity for businesses.
“There is no better partner to work with than NITDA, and we are happy to sign this MoU and move the partnership forward,” he said.
The MoU provides a framework for collaboration in areas including the development of a collaborative digital ecosystem platform, enterprise digital transformation for MSMEs, promotion of digital innovation and technology adoption, and capacity building for Nigerian businesses.
It also provides for strategic cooperation toward the successful development and institutionalisation of the Digital Nigeria International Conference (DNICE) 2026 and subsequent editions.
The partnership is expected to strengthen linkages among government institutions, private sector organisations, technology companies, academia, investors, development partners and other stakeholders.
According to NACCIMA, such collaboration will help create an enabling environment for innovation and sustainable economic growth.
Obadimu said both organisations were prepared to commence implementation of the agreement immediately.
“We are going to hit the ground running as soon as we return to our offices for the implementation of this agreement. Nigerians will begin to see things happen almost instantaneously,” he said.
He said the partnership held significant prospects for Nigeria, particularly its growing youth population, which he described as a major driver of innovation and digital entrepreneurship.
“Digitalisation is the way to go. As you can see, we have a youthful population, and they are the ones driving this process.
“We should encourage them and give them all the necessary support to go beyond Nigeria and compete on the global stage,” he said.
The collaboration aligns with NITDA’s mandate to drive Nigeria’s digital economy through technology innovation, digital literacy and business transformation.
It will also leverage NACCIMA’s extensive network within the organised private sector to promote wider adoption of digital technologies by Nigerian businesses.
