Internet Fraud: Court Orders Barber to Sweep Police Station for 90 Days

An FCT High Court in Kubwa on Wednesday ordered a 21-year-old hairdresser, Isaac Clement, to sweep the police station in Kwali Area Council for 90 days for cheating.

Clemente, who pleaded guilty to fraud before the Commission (EFCC), begged the court for leniency.

In delivering his ruling, Judge Kezziah Ogbonnaya ordered sentencing to begin on Thursday.

The judge also ordered that Clement must sign in and out every day after sweeping the police station.

Ogbonnaya warned Clement to desist from committing crimes and behave himself.

Earlier, EFCC attorney Rita Ogar told the court that a plea agreement dated February 4 had been signed by attorney Patrick Onuh and its terms had been adopted.

Ogar pleaded with the court to sentence Clement accordingly.

She told the court that Clement posed as Mr. Parthner Smith, a US military officer, and tricked another US citizen, Felicia Mendez, into paying him $550.

He said he tricked Mendez into thinking he was going to buy a plane ticket to visit her in August 2021.

The crime, he said, contravenes the provisions of article 320 of the Penal Code and is punishable in article 322.
