Nigeria Police Force’s National Cybercrime Centre has initiated a review of a viral documentary alleging that a Nigerian socialite impersonated Dubai’s Crown Prince to defraud a foreign victim of millions of dollars.

Nigeria Police Launch Probe into Viral Dubai Prince Impersonation Scam Documentary

Commissioner of Police Uche Ifeanyi, who heads the centre, disclosed that officers have begun profiling individuals named in the report and verifying online claims.

“We intercepted that trending case this morning and summoned my team for profiling and analysis based on the facts available,” Ifeanyi stated.

He noted that no formal complaint has been received from the YouTuber or documentary producers, so the police are relying on publicly available media information.

“We’ve not been contacted by the YouTuber, but we’re analysing what’s out there and will ensure justice,” he added.

The cybercrime chief emphasised that allegations from social media or independent probes will not be ignored.

“It’s a serious matter; the Nigeria Police Force won’t sweep it under the carpet, whether from a YouTuber or a petition,” Ifeanyi affirmed.

He also warned Nigerians about online investment scams, urging vigilance against promises of high returns and high-pressure tactics.

“If an investment seems too good to be true, ask questions. Report suspicions to the Office of the Inspector General of Police for action,” he advised.

The documentary, released by the Organised Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP), accuses Nzube Henry Ikeji of orchestrating a romance and humanitarian investment scam that defrauded Romanian businesswoman Laura of approximately $2.5 million.

The scheme reportedly started three years ago via a LinkedIn account posing as the Crown Prince. Internal conflicts allegedly exposed it, with an associate revealing Ikeji’s identity and sharing a video of him at a new mansion.

OCCRP investigators visited Abuja, collaborating with journalist Chikezie Omeje to trace Ikeji through social media links tied to him and his wife.

Police confirmed their analysis continues, with appropriate actions to follow upon completion.
