Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has declared former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Social Development, Sadiya Umar Farouq, wanted over alleged abuse of office and diversion of public funds.

The anti-graft agency announced this in a notice published on its official platform.

According to the notice, Farouq, 52, is from Zamfara State and her last known address is listed as Maitama, Abuja.

The commission called on members of the public with useful information on her whereabouts to contact any of its offices nationwide.

It also provided contact channels through which information that could aid her arrest could be communicated.

Farouq served as Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development under the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari after her appointment in July 2019.

She was among the youngest ministers in Buhari’s cabinet at the time.

Reports indicate that an FCT High Court sitting in Apo, Abuja, had earlier issued a warrant for her arrest on April 16, 2026.

The details of the allegations against the former minister were not immediately disclosed in the EFCC notice.

However, the commission said the action was linked to ongoing investigations into alleged financial misconduct and abuse of office.

Farouq had yet to publicly respond to the development as of the time of filing this report.
