MTN Nigeria Launches FlyX Broadband to Expand 4G, 5G Internet Access

    MTN FlyX Broadband

MTN Nigeria has launched its FlyX broadband solution, aimed at expanding access to high-speed internet for homes and small businesses across the country.

The solution uses Outdoor Units (ODUs), alongside indoor equipment, to connect users to MTN’s 4G and 5G networks.

According to the company, the ODUs are designed to capture stronger network signals in locations where indoor reception is weak and fibre broadband is not yet available.

It said the technology would help extend broadband access to urban, peri-urban and underserved communities where conventional broadband deployment could be challenging.

The solution also offers plug-and-play functionality with limited installation requirements, enabling users to connect to the internet for activities including streaming, remote work, online gaming and business operations.

Chief Broadband Officer, MTN Nigeria, Mr Egerton Idehen, said the solution was developed to address connectivity challenges and expand access to broadband services.

“At MTN, our focus is on building solutions that respond to real connectivity challenges. FlyX is a clear example of how we are using our network strength to rethink broadband delivery, making it faster to deploy, easier to access, and more responsive to the needs of Nigerians,” Idehen said.

He said the solution would help bridge connectivity gaps, particularly in locations where fibre infrastructure was not yet available.

“This approach allows us to bridge critical gaps, particularly in areas where fibre is not yet available, while still delivering the speed and reliability required for today’s digital lifestyles.

“It’s about ensuring that more people can participate fully in the digital economy, regardless of their location,” he added.

MTN said the FlyX portfolio provides connectivity options for different user needs, including households, remote workers and businesses.

The company said the addition of ODUs would improve signal reception and stability in areas with weak indoor coverage.

The launch forms part of MTN Nigeria’s broader strategy to increase broadband penetration and promote digital inclusion across the country.

The FlyX Outdoor Units are available at authorised MTN stores nationwide and through the company’s FlyX platform.
