A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and political ally of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, Chief Daniel Osi Orbih, has died.
Orbih passed away on Monday, August 31, 2026, according to a statement issued by his family.
The announcement was made public on Tuesday in a statement shared by Wike’s spokesperson, Lere Olayinka.
The family, in a statement signed by Francis Udukhomoi Orbih, described the deceased as a beloved brother, husband, father and uncle.
“With profound sadness and a heavy heart but in total submission to the will of the Almighty God, the family of Chief M.C.K. Orbih announce the passing of our beloved brother, husband, father and uncle, Chief Daniel Osi Orbih, who passed away on Monday, 31 August 2026,” the statement said.
Orbih is survived by his wife, Florence Orbih; his children, Winifred Anwosiobor Orbih and Mildred Omonemi Orbih; his brothers and sisters; and other members of his extended family.
The family appealed to relatives, friends and well-wishers to remember them in their prayers as they mourn the loss.
It said details of the burial arrangements would be announced in due course.
Orbih was a prominent figure in the PDP and was closely associated with the political camp of Wike, a former governor of Rivers State and the current FCT Minister.
In 2024, Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo appointed Orbih, who was identified as the PDP South-South Zonal Chairman, as Chairman of the Governing Council of Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma.
The appointment was announced in a statement issued at the time by the then Secretary to the Edo State Government, Umar Musa Ikhilor.
The family concluded its statement with a prayer for the repose of Orbih’s soul.
