Mr Ike Nnamani, Managing Director of Digital Realty Nigeria, has expressed support for the forthcoming eWorld Forum and the launch of a book commemorating 25 years of Nigeria’s GSM revolution.
Nnamani’s support adds Digital Realty to the list of telecommunications industry stakeholders backing the GSM@25 initiative, which seeks to recognise the pioneers, institutions and professionals who contributed to the development of Nigeria’s telecommunications sector.
Other supporters of the initiative include the Association of Telecommunications Companies of Nigeria (ATCON), Internet Exchange Point of Nigeria (IXPN), Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and Dr Ernest Ndukwe, former Executive Vice Chairman of NCC and Chairman of MTN Nigeria.
Ndukwe served as NCC Executive Vice Chairman from 2000 to 2010, a period that covered the formative years of Nigeria’s GSM era.
Nnamani’s involvement comes against the backdrop of Digital Realty’s growing role in Nigeria’s digital infrastructure ecosystem.
In April 2026, Digital Realty activated a new IXPN Point of Presence (PoP) at its Ibeju-Lekki data centre in Lagos, linking the facility with its Victoria Island campus.
The development enables internet traffic to be exchanged locally, with the potential to reduce latency and improve connectivity for members of the internet exchange.
IXPN currently serves more than 130 organisations, including internet service providers, cloud operators and content platforms.
The Lekki development followed Digital Realty’s launch of its LKK2 data centre in August 2025, which added nearly 2MW of IT capacity.
The developments form part of the infrastructure supporting Nigeria’s expanding digital economy, following the growth of telecommunications services that began with the commercial launch of GSM in 2001.
The eWorld Forum and GSM@25 book launch are scheduled for Sept. 4, 2026, at Oriental Hotel, Lagos.
The event is expected to bring together telecommunications pioneers, policymakers, regulators, industry executives, technology entrepreneurs and journalists to reflect on the development of Nigeria’s telecommunications industry.
It will also provide an opportunity to recognise individuals and institutions that contributed to the growth of the GSM sector and its impact on Nigeria’s digital economy.
