United States Mission in Nigeria has cautioned that visa overstays by Nigerian travellers could negatively affect future visa applicants from the country.

In an advisory issued on Monday, the mission said strict compliance with U.S. immigration laws remains essential to preserving travel opportunities for Nigerians visiting for education, business, tourism, and family purposes.

It noted that violations such as overstaying visas or breaching entry conditions could influence how future applications from the same country are assessed.

“Visa overstays by Nigerian travellers can affect opportunities for their fellow citizens,” the mission said.

“Strengthening compliance helps protect access for students, business travellers, and families who travel responsibly,” it added.

The mission also raised concerns over visa fraud and misuse of travel documents, describing such actions as serious offences that undermine the integrity of the U.S. immigration system.

It urged individuals with credible information on visa fraud to report directly to official consular fraud prevention channels via [email protected] or [email protected].

The advisory comes amid ongoing efforts by U.S. authorities to tighten immigration compliance and ensure adherence to visa conditions by international travellers.
