How a Fibre Cut Crippled MTN Services in Enugu and Benue, Sparking Outrage

    MTN

Subscribers of MTN Nigeria in parts of Enugu and Benue States have been facing a major network outage since Saturday, leaving them unable to make calls or access data services.

The disruption, which began around midday, has sparked widespread frustration, with many users voicing their complaints across social media platforms.

In a message sent to affected customers, MTN acknowledged the issue: “Dear Customer, we’re experiencing network challenges in some parts of Benue and Enugu States due to fibre cut, and our services may be temporarily unavailable as a result.

“Our engineers are working to restore services as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience and understanding.”

The company assured subscribers that its technical team is working around the clock to resolve the issue and restore full connectivity.

While no estimated time for resolution was provided, MTN emphasized its commitment to minimizing downtime and improving service reliability.

This incident highlights ongoing infrastructure vulnerabilities in Nigeria’s telecom sector, where fibre cuts—often caused by construction, vandalism, or environmental factors—continue to disrupt essential communication services.
