    Ikoyi Building Collapse: Sanwo-Olu Suspends LASBCA GM, Orders Probe

    Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has ordered the indefinite suspension of Lagos State Building Control Agency(LASBCA), Architect Gbolahan Oki over the 21-Storey building that collapsed at Gerrard Road, Ikoyi, Lagos.

    The governor, according to a statement signed by the State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotosho, on Tuesday, is also setting up an independent panel to probe the circumstances that surrounds the collapse of the building.

    According to Omotosho, rescue operators have pulled out 14 dead bodies while nine were rescued alive.

    “Those alive have been taken to hospitals and the Deputy Governor, Dr Obafemi Hamzat is personally on the ground to monitor their treatment.

    “The investigative panel will comprise of members of the Nigeria Institute of Architects (NIA), Nigerian Institute of Town Planners (NITP), Nigeria Society of Engineers (NSE)

    and other professional bodies.

    “It will independently investigate the remote and immediate causes of the incident and make recommendations on how to prevent future occurrence”, Omotosho stated.

    Government is also presently conducting an internal probe of the unfortunate incident.
