Amb. Ismail Yusuf, the Nigerian Ambassador to the Republic of Turkey, pledged to promote Nigeria‘s interests and further strengthen the existing bilateral relations between the two countries.
Yusuf made this promise when he presented his credentials to Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan at the Ankara Presidential Palace.
Ms Ibiyemi Robert-Ajiboye, Minister of Political Affairs at the Nigerian Embassy in Ankara, made this known in a statement to the Nigerian News Agency (NAN) on Friday in Abuja.
Yusuf conveyed President Muhammadu Buhari‘s greetings to Erdogan, expressing his gratitude for Turkey ’s steadfast support to the nation and its people.
He said, however, that he would use his post as ambassador to further strengthen bilateral relations between the two nations for the benefit of Nigeria.
Erdogan in his remarks offered to help Nigeria in the fight against terrorism.
He asked the ambassador to organize a meeting between relevant Nigerian and Turkish officials to define possible areas of cooperation.
The presentation marked the official accreditation of Yusuf, who was recently appointed along with other ambassadors and then deployed to various countries.
NAN reports that Yusuf, a career diplomat, brings three decades of diplomatic experience to his new post. (NAN)
