OPay customers can now check whether they qualify for the Federal Government’s ₦50,000 National Emergency Relief and Stabilisation Intervention (NERSI) through the fintech company’s mobile app or USSD service, RaveNewsOnline reports.
The company announced that customers can check their eligibility by dialling *955*20# from the phone number linked to their OPay account. Those using the mobile app can also access the service through a dedicated NERSI banner.
The Federal Government launched NERSI on October 30, 2026 to provide financial support to vulnerable households struggling with high costs of food prices and living expenses. Under the intervention, selected beneficiaries are expected to receive ₦50,000 through approved digital financial service providers.
OPay is one of five payment partners selected to facilitate the payments. The others are Moniepoint, ALAT by Wema Bank, MoMo PSB and NairaGram.

Who qualifies for the ₦50,000 NERSI support?
The Federal Government says beneficiaries will be selected using verified National Identification Number (NIN) records and the National Social Register (NSR).
The register contains information on poor and vulnerable households across Nigeria. Government officials will use the records to identify eligible recipients.
However, Nigerians cannot independently apply to join the beneficiary list, and cannot pay an agent or any other person to secure a place in the programme.
Payments will take place in phases across the country’s six geopolitical zones. Consequently, eligible households may receive notifications at different times.
The government has also indicated that selected beneficiaries may receive an SMS requesting their consent before payments are processed.
OPay warns customers against NERSI scams
OPay has warned customers not to pay anyone who claims to offer access to the ₦50,000 support.
The company said checking eligibility and receiving the intervention do not require any payment. Customers should also avoid sharing their personal identification numbers (PINs), one-time passwords (OTPs) or account passwords.
Fraudsters may also send suspicious links or messages claiming to help people secure the government support. Customers should avoid clicking such links or providing their banking details.
For enquiries about the intervention, customers can contact the NERSI programme helpline on 0700-022-2222.
The government introduced the monthly relief programme to help vulnerable households cope with economic hardship. However, access is subject to its beneficiary verification process.
