Instagram has introduced a long-awaited feature that allows users to rearrange posts on their profile grids without deleting and reposting content.
The feature, known as “Reorder Grid,” gives users greater control over how content appears on their profiles and marks a departure from the platform’s traditional reverse-chronological layout.
Announcing the update on its Creator account, Instagram said the feature would help users highlight their best content and personalise the appearance of their profiles.
According to the platform, users can now move posts to any position on their profile grid regardless of when the content was originally published.
The update is expected to benefit content creators, influencers and businesses that use their profiles as visual portfolios and branding tools.
Before the introduction of the feature, Instagram profiles automatically displayed posts in reverse chronological order, with the latest uploads appearing first.
The new functionality enables users to curate their profiles more intentionally by organising content to suit specific themes, campaigns or visual aesthetics.
To use the feature, users can visit their profile page, press and hold a post, and select the “Reorder Grid” option from the menu that appears.
Posts can then be dragged and dropped into preferred positions, with the changes taking effect immediately.
The update follows years of requests from users seeking more flexibility in profile customisation.
Instagram chief, Adam Mosseri, had previously hinted at the feature, while app researcher Alessandro Paluzzi first discovered references to an “Edit Grid” function in Instagram’s code in 2022.
Industry observers say the move reflects a broader trend among social media platforms toward increased personalisation and user control over content presentation.
With the feature now rolling out globally, Instagram users can organise their profiles without the need to delete, archive or repost existing content.
The company said the changes become visible immediately after saving, providing users with a simple way to reshape how visitors view their profiles at first glance.
