EFCC Boss Dismisses Reports Linking Serving Minister to $37.5M Property

The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Abdulrasheed Bawa, dismissed media reports linking a sitting female minister to the Buhari administration to $ 37.5 million in assets in the country.

The boss of the EFCC had, on June 15, in an interview with Sunrise Daily, a program of the television channel, revealed that the commission had investigated a woman minister, who had bought for 37.5 million dollars real estate to a bank and deposited $ 20 million.

However, Bawa, during the weekly briefing organized by the presidential communications team in Abuja on Thursday, clarified that he was not referring to a sitting minister in his narration of how a minister bought property through a manager. bank.

EFCC chairman was reacting to question on why no minister had resigned or a bank manager sued over the case, saying he only referred to the Diezani Alison-Madueke case and not to a sitting minister, as wrongly stated.

“We investigated a case in which a bank managing director marketed a property to a minister and agreed to buy it for $ 37.5 million.

“The bank then sent a vehicle home to evacuate $ 20 million from her house as a first step,” he said.

He had also identified the real estate sector as a major vector of money laundering in the country.

According to him, 90 to 100 percent of stolen public funds are used for the acquisition of land properties in the country and abroad. (NAA)
