NDLEA Foils Fake Pregnancy Plot, Seizes 3,200 Tramadol Capsules at Seme Border

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have intercepted a 35-year-old Kano-based businesswoman, Rabi Muhammad, attempting to smuggle 3,200 tramadol capsules hidden in a fake baby bump across the Seme land border to Cotonou, Benin Republic.

Muhammad was nabbed on Monday, February 16, 2026, at the departure tarmac with a suspicious protruding tummy; a body search exposed the pink-coloured calabash strapped around her stomach concealing the drugs, NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi revealed in a Sunday statement.

The dramatic bust underscores NDLEA’s vigilance against innovative smuggling tactics targeting West African routes.

Babafemi noted the tramadol was meant for sale in Cotonou, highlighting ongoing efforts to curb opioid trafficking through land borders.
