Insecurity: Edwin Clark Calls for National Dialogue

Former statesman and Ijaw leader, Chief Edwin Clark, on Monday urged President Muhammadu Buhari to call for a national dialogue to discuss the security challenges facing the country.

He made the call as he briefed reporters in Abuja on the state of the nation.

“I call on the president to convene a national dialogue on insecurity and general violence with Nigerians of various ethnicities.

He said any law banning open grazing by some state governments was legal and binding on any person or group of people.

“There is no federal system where the federating units are not controlled by the governors, who are the security chiefs of his federating unit.

“What we practice today is not a federation. On the contrary, what we are practicing is a unitary form of government and that is why the people want a new Constitution.

“The different calls of the groups for secession and the break-up of the country are not healthy. The president must have a peaceful government until he leaves office in 2023.

“We must build a united Nigeria where all citizens are equal and have an equal opportunity to aspire to any office in their God-given country without being subjugated or reduced to becoming subjects without any rights in their own country” Clark said.
