O.J. Simpson’s Estate Agrees to Settle Multi-Million Dollar Claim by Goldman Family

The estate of late American football star O.J. Simpson has agreed to a multi-million dollar settlement with Fred Goldman, father of Ron Goldman, who was killed alongside Nicole Brown Simpson in 1994.

The development marks a significant shift in the long-standing legal battle between the Goldman family and Simpson’s estate, following a 1997 civil court ruling that awarded the Goldman and Brown families over $33 million in damages for wrongful death.

Simpson, who was acquitted of the double murder in a criminal trial, paid only a fraction of the civil judgment before his death in April 2024 at the age of 76.

In July 2024, Fred Goldman filed a claim for $57.9 million, including interest, in the Clark County District Court in Nevada. The estate’s executor, Malcolm LaVergne, initially vowed not to pay the Goldman family but has since reversed his position, acknowledging the debt and committing to work toward a resolution.

LaVergne told TMZ that the estate intends to pay as much as possible, though he noted that some valuable items that could have been auctioned to raise funds were allegedly stolen. Legal efforts are underway to recover those assets.

Goldman’s legal team filed a broader claim exceeding $117 million, citing accrued interest. LaVergne has disputed the interest calculation but confirmed ongoing discussions to determine a more accurate figure.

The Goldman family’s attorney emphasized that the estate’s acknowledgment of the debt does not equate to payment but allows the probate process to proceed.

“We will continue to monitor the probate process as it progresses,” the attorney said.

The settlement discussions represent a potential turning point in a decades-long pursuit of justice by the Goldman family.
