U.S. Unveils Draft Design for $1 Trump Coin to Mark 250th Independence Anniversary

United States Treasury has unveiled a draft design for a commemorative $1 coin featuring President Donald Trump, as part of the country’s preparations for its 250th Independence anniversary in 2026.

The proposed coin, which is still under review, showcases Trump’s profile on the obverse side, accompanied by the inscription “Liberty” and the dates “1776–2026.”

The reverse side depicts the President with a clenched fist raised in front of the American flag, encircled by the phrase “Fight, Fight, Fight”—a reference to his remarks following a failed assassination attempt in 2024.

The coin is being developed under the Circulating Collectible Coin Redesign Act of 2020, which authorizes the minting of special $1 coins to commemorate the semiquincentennial of American independence.

However, the design has sparked debate, as U.S. law traditionally prohibits the depiction of living individuals on currency. Legal experts suggest the draft may avoid direct violation by using symbolic imagery rather than a formal portrait.

While the coin has not yet been finalized, Treasury officials indicated that further updates would be released once the current government shutdown concludes.

Public reactions have been mixed. Supporters hail the design as a tribute to resilience and patriotism, while critics question its legality and symbolism.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt responded to inquiries by saying, “I’m not sure if he’s seen it, but I’m sure he’ll love it.”

The commemorative coin is expected to be part of a broader series marking the historic milestone, with additional designs to be announced in the coming months.
