Police arrest mother, nurse and others over alleged sale of newborn baby for N1.5m in Delta

Delta State Police Command has arrested a woman and a nurse alongside three others for allegedly selling her newborn baby in Ika North East Local Government Area of the state.

The incident was reported to Owa-Oyibu Division on September 25, 2025 by a human rights activist, Osim Daniel, who received a petition from one Morka Celestine of Raphael Obiake Street, Boji-Boji Owa.

Celestine alleged that his neighbour, one Joy Osoya, sold her baby shortly after delivery.

Detectives immediately swung into action, arrested Osoya, and during interrogation, she confessed to the crime.

“She led police operatives to the residence of one Angela Emi, the nurse who delivered the baby on September 22 and facilitated its sale for N1.5 million,” a source told security analyst Zagazola Makama.

“Osoya admitted that Emi gave her N1 million out of the proceeds.”

Osoya, Emi, and three other suspects were taken into custody, while N555,000 was recovered from Osoya as exhibit.

Efforts are ongoing to recover the baby, while the case will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Asaba, after preliminary investigations.
