The exclusive tournament was held at the Golf Section of Ikoyi Club 1938, Lagos, to reward premium customers and promote local sports development.

Speaking to the essence of golf, Afolabi Balogun, Golf Captain of Ikoyi Club 1938, noted that golf helps build corporate ties, allowing executives to stay active while connecting with peers on the green.

The multi-city tournament format promotes the sport across Nigeria, testing the skills of top amateur players on various courses.

At the awards ceremony Onyinye Ikenna-Emeka, Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) at MTN Nigeria, celebrated the golfers’ sportsmanship, highlighting the growth since the inaugural edition, which saw Solomon Nwaigwe secure the 2025 title and a trip to New York.

Reflecting on the 2026 tour, which moved from Rivers state to the Lagos state finale, Onyinye said, “Beyond connectivity at MTN Nigeria, we are committed to ensuring that there is consistent development and progress of sports in Nigeria. And golf is one of such sports.” The regional champions, including Port Harcourt leg winner Ochade Ajabor, will represent the community at the British 154th Open at Royal Birkdale in July.

Tobechukwu Okigbo, MTN Nigeria’s Chief Corporate Services and Sustainability Officer (CCSSO); His Excellency Benedict Adegboyega Alabi, former Deputy Governor, Osun State; and Michael Ikpoki, former CEO of MTN Ghana and Nigeria, were also present at the tournament. Okigbo commented on his initiation into the sport, explaining that hitting the ball from the tee for the very first time felt like a real-life test of total focus.

The Lady Captain, Annie Eimiakhena of the club, who leads a multi-generational group of female golfers, noted that the mixed tournament structure sharpens competitive skills while fostering entrepreneurial growth.

“It also allows you to network, which allows you to meet people. It’s an opportunity for me to just meet them and network. And, of course, sell myself, because I run a business,” she remarked.

For the winners, the reward extends beyond trophies to continental exposure. As the guests departed, the consensus remained that the event successfully solidified relationships, setting a high standard for subsequent editions in the country’s corporate sports calendar.
