Tragic Loss: BBNaija’s Phyna Mourns Sister Ruth Otabor After Fatal Accident

The entertainment community and fans have been thrown into sorrow following the death of Ruth Otabor, younger sister of Big Brother Naija Season 7 winner, Phyna.
Ruth passed away early on Sunday, August 31, 2025, at approximately 6:30 a.m., confirmed in a statement released by Eko Solicitors & Advocates on behalf of the grieving family.

Ruth’s tragic fate followed a severe accident on August 13, 2025, near Auchi Polytechnic in Edo State. She was struck by a heavy-duty truck owned by the Dangote Group, which crushed her leg before a bystander intervened to stop the vehicle.
The severity of her injuries led to the amputation of her leg just days after she had celebrated her graduation from Auchi Polytechnic.

The family, deeply mournful of their loss, has requested privacy to grieve and announced that funeral arrangements will be communicated in due course.

Phyna, known for her tenacity during her BBNaija stint, had openly demanded justice for her sister, condemning the circumstances that led to the tragic accident.
The accident reignited public discourse on road safety and corporate accountability in Nigeria, with many calling for stricter regulation of commercial trucks to prevent such incidents.

Ruth’s passing marks a heartbreaking chapter for the Otabor family and fans who have followed Phyna’s journey. The loss is felt deeply across the entertainment circles and beyond, with many sympathizing with the family’s anguish.

As Nigeria mourns alongside the family, calls for justice and improved safety measures continue to echo to prevent further tragedies of this nature.

May Ruth Otabor’s soul rest in peace.
