FSS Cautions Nigerians Against Petrol Storage During Scarcity

The Federal Fire Service (FFS) has warned Nigerians against storing Premium Motor Spirits (PMS), popularly known as “gasoline” in confined places as the country experiences a dire shortage.

Mr. Karebo Samson, Acting Controller General of the service, gave the warning in a statement, Mr. Abraham Paul, on Wednesday in Abuja.

The Ag. CG said the warning was made necessary “because gasoline is highly flammable, if not handled carefully it could cause serious fire explosions.”

He further stated that failure to adhere to fire prevention measures could endanger life and property loss.

“As we all know, children like to experiment, so storing PMS at home could put them at high risk, especially if it is within their reach.

“There is always a risk of a fire or explosion if there is an ignition source near an open flame or electrical spark,” he said.

The Nigerian News Agency reports that the FFS recorded electrical sparks as one of the main causes of fire outbreaks in 2021.

The FFS chief also advised Nigerians to avoid any act that could cause a fire in their surroundings, as the current weather conditions are not conducive to fire.
