NNPCL Raises Petrol Price to N1,270 in Abuja Despite Dangote Refinery’s N1,185 Offer

    Fuel Pump

Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has increased the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), popularly known as petrol, at its retail outlets in Abuja and its environs.

A market check on Tuesday, Aug. 25, showed that NNPCL filling stations had raised the petrol price to N1,270 per litre from N1,250, representing an increase of N20 per litre.

The development came despite the expansion of Dangote Refinery’s free petrol delivery initiative to 10 destinations across Nigeria, including Abuja, where petrol is reportedly available at N1,185 per litre.

The latest adjustment also followed an earlier N20 increase in the pump price of petrol at MRS filling stations, which now sell the product at N1,230 per litre.

Following the new price movement, petrol at NNPCL outlets is now between N15 and N40 per litre more expensive than prices at some filling stations, including MRS, Geregu, Ranoil, Emedab and Mobil outlets in Abuja and neighbouring areas.

However, some independent marketers, including Empire and AA Rano, were selling petrol at higher prices ranging from N1,275 to N1,299 per litre.

The development means that motorists and other consumers in Abuja and its environs now purchase petrol at prices ranging from N1,230 to N1,299 per litre, depending on the retail outlet.

The latest price adjustment comes amid concerns over the rising cost of transportation and the impact of fuel price fluctuations on household and business expenses.
