Woman Drags Partner to Court for Refusing to Admit Marriage

A businesswoman, Khadija Muhammad, dragged her husband, Umar Abdullahi, to a Shari’a court in Rigasa, Kaduna on Wednesday for allegedly refusing to recognize their union.

She told the court that she was married to the defendant, but later traveled to Saudi Arabia, begging the court to help her confirm the position of their marriage.

The complaint also told the court that the defendant had charged him for goods worth N194,300 since 2017, but did not pay him.

She prayed to the court to help her get the money back.

In his defense, the accused denied marrying Muhammad, saying that they only courted him for a while but had not married.

He agreed to the amount the complaint alleged he owed and told the court he intended to pay.

The Nigerian News Agency reported that the court had earlier invited witnesses to testify about the duo’s marital relationship.

All the witnesses presented could not clearly state whether the two parties were married.

All said they knew about the ex-partner‘s courtship, not about the marriage.

Judge Malam Salisu Abubakar-Tureta adjourned the case until March 9 to pass sentence.
