    Two new cases of monkeypox confirmed in Cross River state

    Cross River State Epidemiologist, Inyang Ekpenyong, has confirmed two new cases of Monkeypox in Calabar Municipality Local Government Area.

    Ravenewsonline reports that the announcement was made in a statement released on Saturday, September 14.

    This comes after the state reported a Mpox case in Okoshe, Obudu Local Government Area, which was confirmed by the National Reference Laboratory in Abuja.

    Ekpenyong disclosed that a case management team had been informed, and the two new cases would be urgently evacuated to an isolation centre for treatment.

    “The state/LGA Rapid Response Team (RRT) have commenced contact tracing, listing, and monitoring,” she said, adding that the team is taking swift action to contain the spread of the disease.

    In her statement, Ekpenyong also made a public appeal for financial resources to support the state’s response efforts. “We also use this opportunity to appeal for financial resources to urgently carry out the needed response activities,” she said.

    Authorities are continuing efforts to trace and monitor contacts of the affected individuals, as the state ramps up its measures to control the spread of the disease.
