Donation Scandal: Nigerian Cancer Society Drags Blessing Okoro to EFCC

Nigerian Cancer Society (NCS) has petitioned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Department of State Services (DSS), and Nigeria Police Force against social media influencer Blessing “CEO” Okoro for alleged false cancer claims and defrauding Nigerians of over N12 million in donations.

In a statement signed by its National Director of Publicity, Hon. Bashir Mohammed Ranccasu, the NCS said the action addresses public outrage over Okoro’s claims, underscoring the need for accountability, transparency, and integrity in cancer advocacy and patient support.

The society recalled its earlier condemnation of the alleged conduct as unethical and damaging to Nigeria’s fight against cancer, noting that the gravity of the claims and their threat to public trust demanded escalation to security agencies for investigation to protect the public and avert negative precedents.

NCS stressed that cancer, a life-threatening disease, requires sincerity, compassion, and responsible handling, warning that exploitation erodes credibility for genuine patients and deters support for those in need.

Weeks ago, Okoro claimed online she had stage four cancer, diagnosed in Enugu, and solicited funds for treatment, receiving over N12 million from sympathetic Nigerians. The original owner of the medical result Okoro paraded has since exposed her for doctoring it to substantiate the false claim.

The NCS urged security agencies to probe the matter thoroughly.
