Presidency has called for legal action against social media influencer, Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), over the circulation of an alleged fake audio involving President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, made the call in a post on X on Wednesday.
Onanuga accused the influencer of spreading false content on social media through the circulation of the audio recording.
“This VDM needs to face the weight of the law for being the conveyor and disseminator of a fake audio of President Tinubu,” Onanuga wrote.
“This is a clear case of an egregious abuse of the social media platform,” he added.
The presidential aide was reacting to comments by an X user identified as Aneex, who questioned why some people believed the voice in the viral audio belonged to the president.
In the viral video, VeryDarkMan reportedly used the alleged leaked audio to urge Nigerians not to support Tinubu’s re-election bid ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The authenticity of the audio has not been independently verified.
The development has sparked reactions on social media, with supporters and critics expressing differing views over the controversy and calls for legal action.
