The Kebbi State Police Command has recovered a large quantity of stolen electricity service cables and arrested a suspected vandal, Mustapha Abubakar, in Bunza Local Government Area of the state.
The recovery was made on August 25, 2026, during a police operation in the Kara area of Bunza town following concerns over the persistent theft and vandalism of electricity infrastructure in the community.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, said operatives recovered 10 bundles and seven sacks of electricity service cables during the operation.
According to the police, the vandalism of electricity infrastructure has plunged several communities into darkness and disrupted power supply to residents.
The command said Abubakar was arrested in connection with the recovered cables and subsequently arraigned before a court.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Umar M. Hadejia, reaffirmed the command’s determination to protect critical national infrastructure and prosecute individuals involved in its theft or destruction.
“The Command will continue to dismantle the activities of individuals and criminal networks responsible for the theft and vandalism of critical national infrastructure,” Hadejia said.
He warned that those involved in such criminal activities would face the full weight of the law.
The police commissioner also urged residents to assist security agencies by providing timely information about suspicious movements and activities in their communities.
The command appealed to members of the public to report suspicious activities through its designated contact numbers, 09039911876 and 07081974395, assuring residents that information provided would be treated with strict confidentiality.
