Mrs Uchechi Okwu-Kanu, wife of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has dismissed reports circulating online that she has filed for divorce from her husband, describing the claims as false and misleading.
In a statement posted on her social media platform, Okwu-Kanu said she had not initiated any divorce proceedings and urged the public to disregard the reports.
“My attention was drawn to false reports circulating online claiming that I have filed for divorce from my husband, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
“For the avoidance of doubt, I have not filed for divorce. The publication is entirely false and should be treated as misinformation,” she said.
She expressed concern over what she described as the growing spread of unverified information about her family, saying such reports undermine responsible journalism.
Okwu-Kanu urged members of the public to rely only on information released directly by her or through her authorised representatives.
“It is deeply concerning that individuals continue to fabricate stories about my family and present them as facts without any attempt at verification,” she said.
The statement comes amid continued public attention on the IPOB leader, who was convicted on terrorism-related charges by a Federal High Court in Abuja in November 2025 and sentenced to life imprisonment. The case remains a subject of legal proceedings following his appeal.
