Facebook users across several countries experienced disruptions on Saturday as the social media platform suffered a widespread outage, preventing many from accessing the service.
Reports of the disruption began emerging at about 2:30 p.m., with users complaining of difficulties loading posts, accessing pages and using related services.
According to outage-monitoring platform DownDetector, more than 41,500 users had reported problems with Facebook shortly after the disruption began.
Many users said they encountered “page not found” error messages while attempting to access the platform through both the website and mobile application.
Several users took to other social media platforms to report the issue.
One user wrote that Facebook’s website appeared to have gone down within minutes, while another reported that both the website and app were inaccessible.
According to online monitoring service DownForEveryoneOrJustMe, nearly 13,000 reports relating to Facebook service issues had been logged, with the first complaints appearing shortly after 1 p.m.
The outage appeared to affect users globally, with reports coming from countries including the United States, Canada, the Philippines, Spain and Hungary.
Some users also reported difficulties accessing Messenger, Facebook’s messaging service.
On social media platform X, users said they had been unexpectedly logged out of Facebook and Messenger, while others complained that Meta Business Suite was displaying error messages.
As of the time of filing this report, Meta, Facebook’s parent company, had not issued an official statement on the cause of the disruption or provided an estimated timeline for service restoration.
Facebook is one of the world’s largest social media platforms, serving billions of users globally for communication, content sharing and business activities.
The development sparked widespread reactions online as affected users sought updates on the status of the platform.
