African football has produced some of the most prolific goalscorers in European football, with stars from across the continent making their mark in England, Spain, Germany, France and Italy.
When their goals in Europe’s five major domestic leagues are combined, Gabonese striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang leads the way, followed by Egyptian superstar Mohamed Salah and Cameroon legend Samuel Eto’o.
1. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang — 250 goals
Gabon international Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang tops the list with 250 goals across Ligue 1, the Bundesliga, Premier League and La Liga.
The prolific striker found the net for several European clubs, including Saint-Étienne, Borussia Dortmund, Arsenal, Barcelona and Marseille.
According to the figures in the ranking, Aubameyang holds an eight-goal advantage over Mohamed Salah.
2. Mohamed Salah — 228 goals
Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah occupies second place with 228 goals across Europe’s top five leagues.
Salah has scored in both Serie A and the Premier League, although the majority of his goals have come during his outstanding career with Liverpool.
Before establishing himself as one of the Premier League’s greatest African goalscorers, Salah scored 35 goals in Serie A.
He has also contributed 113 assists in the five major leagues, taking his combined goals and assists tally to 341.
3. Samuel Eto’o — 209 goals
Cameroon icon Samuel Eto’o is third on the list with 209 goals.
The former striker was particularly prolific in Spain, where he scored 162 La Liga goals, with much of that success coming during his celebrated spell at Barcelona.
Eto’o also found the net in Serie A and the Premier League. His 209-goal total is even more impressive considering that significant portions of his career were spent outside Europe’s five major leagues.
4. Didier Drogba — 143 goals
Ivory Coast legend Didier Drogba ranks fourth with 143 goals.
Drogba scored 104 Premier League goals during his time with Chelsea and added another 39 goals in Ligue 1.
A powerful and decisive striker, Drogba became one of Africa’s most celebrated players in Premier League history and played a key role in Chelsea’s success during his years at Stamford Bridge.
5. Frédéric Kanouté — 141 goals
Malian striker Frédéric Kanouté completes the top five with 141 goals.
Kanouté began his career in the Premier League with West Ham and Tottenham before establishing himself as a prolific goalscorer in La Liga, particularly during his successful spell with Sevilla.
His 89 La Liga goals make up the largest share of his 141 goals in Europe’s five major leagues.
Together, these five players highlight the extraordinary impact African footballers have had on Europe’s biggest domestic competitions, combining elite goalscoring ability with some of the most memorable careers in modern football.
