Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has attributed ongoing Quality of Service (QoS) challenges in telecom networks to explosive data consumption growth, even as operators intensify investments to bolster coverage and capacity.

NCC
Executive Vice Chairman Dr. Aminu Maida disclosed this at a media breakfast meeting in Abuja on Friday, noting that while independent measurements show improving performance, surging usage is offsetting gains and creating infrastructure pressure.
Recent data indicates a 170 per cent rise in consumption over two years, fuelling a cycle where service upgrades drive higher demand.
“We’re seeing the right signals from investments, but rising consumption keeps us from full satisfaction as regulators,” Maida stated.
He highlighted planned site upgrades this year, alongside policy reviews, cybersecurity enhancements, and security collaborations to ensure industry sustainability.
