Ghana Football Association Appoints Carlos Queiroz Ahead of World Cup

Ghana Football Association (GFA) has officially appointed Portuguese tactician Carlos Queiroz as the new head coach of the Black Stars.

The decision, finalized by the GFA Executive Council following extensive stakeholder consultations, places the experienced manager at the helm just months before the start of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Queiroz is expected to bring immediate tactical discipline and a high level of technical expertise to a squad preparing for one of its most challenging tournament appearances to date.

Queiroz arrives with one of the most distinguished resumes in international football, having previously led South Africa, Portugal, Iran, Egypt, and Qatar. His track record includes qualifying South Africa for the 2002 World Cup and taking Portugal to the Round of 16 in 2010, alongside multiple tournament appearances with Iran.

Beyond the international stage, his experience as a former manager of Real Madrid and a long-serving assistant at Manchester United is seen as a vital asset for a Ghanaian side looking to make a deep run in the upcoming global showpiece.

The appointment comes as the Black Stars finalize their preparations for the 2026 World Cup, which is scheduled to kick off on June 11, 2026.

Ghana faces a demanding Group Stage schedule in Toronto, Canada, beginning with an opening match against Panama on June 17, followed by high-stakes fixtures against England and Croatia.

Queiroz is expected to begin work immediately to stabilize the team and implement his strategic vision ahead of the tournament’s commencement in North America.
